MTG Holds Cocktail Party for EMIC Hosting

In preparation for the country's staging of the Third Elementary Mathematics Intercity Competition (EMIC) next year in May, the Mathematics Trainers' Guild held a fundraiser cocktail party held at the Chiang Kai Shek College Auditorium last December 18. Tickets for the party were sold at P200 apiece, the proceeds of which shall go to the costs that the MTG shall incur when hosting the EMIC.

Among other things, the MTG Cocktail Party provided a glimpse of as to how big the MTG family has grown over its nine-year existence. Since 1996, the MTG has already sent around three hundred primary and secondary level students to represent the country more in more than fifty international mathematics competitions in at least ten venues around the world. While most of the attendees are from the current crop of MTG delegates to international competitions, many alumni from the 90's batches found the time to attend the party as well.

There was a program during the entire duration of the party to keep the guests entertained. The MTG kids themselves did many of the performances, ranging from singing to interpretative dancing. In between performances, there were raffle draws, which culminated in the drawing of the winner of the top cash prize of P25,000. Though the winner of the grand prize was not there at the party, two MTG kids were fortunate enough to have their ticket numbers drawn for the second and third prizes. MTG alumni Steven Camina of Southridge School came home with the second prize pot of P15,000, while Geraldine Baniqued of St. Paul College Pasig from the current MTG primary level batch won P10,000.

Overall, the occasion was a huge success. Hopefully, this success would be carried on during the EMIC, not only on our hosting, but on the performance of our students as well.
