The Junior Math Encounter, an interscholastic mathematics competition sponsored by the Quezon City Science High School was held last February 2 at the school’s grounds. The competition drew the participation of at least forty schools from all over Metro Manila, a portion of which were represented by members of the 2004 MTG Delegation to International Mathematics Competitions. In the end, the MTG Kids reigned supreme over their competitors, reaping the major awards in the competition. Emerging as gold medallists in the team competition was St. Stephen’s High School. Two of its representatives - Ervin Frederick Dy and Jillian Kristel Sy - were part of the 2004 MTG delegation. The silver medal went to San Beda College, Alabang - with MTG delegates Raymund Joseph Alibutud and Mary Kryslette Bunyi, while the bronze went to St. Jude Catholic School, which had Patrick Adrian Ong and Vance Mikhail Uy. MTG delegate Aldric Cristoval Reyes from Chiang Kai Shek College meanwhile, set the tone for the individual competition, where he won the gold in that contest. He did this despite having a one-year disadvantage from most of his competitors, for he is only a Grade 5 student. The silver medal went to Raymund Alibutud from San Beda, while the bronze went to Vance Uy from St. Jude. Both are Grade 6 students. |
