More than one hundred young Filipino math wizards are going to try their best to bring honor to the Philippines as the Mathematics Trainers' Guild (MTG) goes into full swing once again, with five international math competitions lined up within the next two months. These competitions are the Po Leung Kuk 9th Primary Mathematics World Contest (PMWC) in Hong Kong, the 2nd Southeast China Mathematical Olympiad (SCMO) , the 2005 China Junior High School Mathemaics Olympiad (CJHMO), the 2005 China Primary School Mathematics Olympiad (CPMO), and the Kaohsiung 6th Invitational World Youth Mathematics Intercity Competition (KIWYMIC) in Taiwan. All the members of Philippine contingents to the PMWC, the SCMO, and the KIWYMIC, have all been named already during the past few weeks. Meanwhile, as of this writing, the CJHMO and the CPMO delegations are still several members away from completion, although its qualified members have already been announced as well. The math wizards who will don the country's colors in these upcoming battles are all members of the 2005 MTG Delegation to International Mathematics Competitions. They made it here by proving themselves to be among the country's finest during the MTG's annual yearlong and nationwide search for the country's top mathematical minds in both the elementary and secondary levels. Their grade levels span from Grade 3 in elementary to 4th year high school and they come from different geographic locations across the archipelago. They will try to bank on the success that the country has achieved when it simultaneously hosted two international competitions, the 2005 Philippine Elementary Mathematics International Contest (PEMIC) and the 2005 Asian Intercities Teenagers' Mathematics Olympiad (AITMO), last May. Many of the participants, particularly those joining the CPMO and the CJHMO, are going to get their first crack at international competition just now, though many of the other members are actually MTG Kids who have proven themselves during the recent PEMIC and AITMO.
