Forty-two members of the 2005 Mathematics Trainers' Guild Philppine Delegation to International Mathematics Competitions for the Primary Level recently brought pride and honor to the country after representing it in the China Primary Mathematics Olympiad (CPMO), held last August 8 to 14, 2005 in Tai-an City, Shandong China. The Philippine delegation had four 1st Honors, seven 2nd Honors and 30 3rd Honors recepients in the Calculation Skills event, and fourteen 2nd Honors and 28 3rd Honors recepients in the Problem Solving Skills event. On top of this, one of the Philippine teams even managed to finish as the top team in the Calculation Skills event.

The Philippines has been participating as a guest participant to this competition since 1998. The forty-two Philippine representatives to this contest were among the nearly one hundred primary level students who made it past the MTG's rigorous year-long training and selection process of the country's top young mathematical minds. Other primary level competitions that the MTG Kids participated in early this year were the 2005 Philippine Elementary Mathematics International Competition in Bohol last May, and the Po Leung Kuk 9th Primary Mathematics World Contest in Hong Kong last July. |
