Nerecena December 17, 2005 Five members of the 2005 Mathematics Trainers' Guild Delegation to International Mathematics Competitions for the Primary Level recently made the country proud by earning four bronze medals in the recently concluded 3rd International Science and Mathematics Olympiad for Primary Schools (ISMOPS)last November 16 to 21, 2005 in Jakarta, Indonesia. Earning the bronze medals for our country were Kenneth Co (Grade 4, Xavier School), Immanuel Encarnacion (Grade 6, Colegio de San Agustin - Binan), Brendon Matthew Go (Grade 4, Xavier School), and Audrey Celine Lao (Grade 4, St. Jude Catholic School). Also participating in this event was Vance Jeremy Yap (Grade 5, Grace Christian High School). The five MTG kids were part of the 14-member Philippine delegation to this annual event. In all, the country earned nine bronze medals - five from math and four from science. The 3rd ISMPOS is the last competition participated in by the MTG Delegation for the school year 2005-2006. Earlier this year, the MTG also sent its students to participate in international mathematics competitions in the United States, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and even here in the Philippines. Students chosen to represent the country in these competitions undergo a yearlong screening process administered by the MTG nationwide. This year, nearly two hundred such students made it past the entire screening process. |
