2006 Achievements

On June 5, MTG released the results of the 2006 Canadian Mathematics Competition that was held on February. MTG Philippines ranked 1st among 40 international teams in the Cayley Contest (Grade 10), 2nd out of 37 in Fermat (Grade 11), and 8th out of 36 in Pascal (Grade 9). Receiving medals for being the Philippine top scorers in their respective contests were: Michael Brodeth (Gr.4, Colegio San Agustin, Binan) and Matthew Ng (Gr. 5, Chiang Kai Shek College) for Pascal, Patrick Adrian Ong (1st yr., St. Jude Catholic School) for Cayley, and Raymond Tan (4th yr., Jubilee Christian Academy) for Fermat. In all, MTG received 4 medals and 160 certificates of recognition.

On June 2 to 3, thirty high school MTG Kids were in Las Vegas, Nevada for the 2006 American Regions Mathematics League. Philippines A ranked 15th out of 81 teams in Division B, the highest that the country has ever placed in this competition. Receiving High Scorer Medals for their respective teams were: Alvin Belleza (4th yr., Ateneo de Manila), Ramon Inigo Marfil (3rd yr., Philippine Science High School), and Stephanie Anne Oliveros (2nd yr., Philippine Science High School) for Philippines Team A; and Geraldine Baniqued (Gr. 7, St. Paul's College Pasig), Ian Lemuel Dimaandal (2nd yr., Philippine Science High School), and Tobit James Narciso (3rd yr., Philippine Science High School) for Philippines Team B.

On May 26 to 31, sixteen elementary MTG Kids were in Bali, Indonesia for the 2006 Indonesia Elementary Mathematics International Contest. Amiel Sy (Gr. 5, Jubilee Christian Academy) won for the country a gold medal in the individual competition. In all, MTG Kids bagged a haul of 1 gold medal, 1 silver medal, 3 bronze medals, and 11 merit awards in the individual competition; one 2nd place trophy and two 3rd place trophies in the team competition; and two 2nd place trophies and two 3rd place trophies in the puzzle competition. Ten countries took part in this contest.

On March 10 to 11, two MTG Kids went to Lucca, Italy and represented the country in the 1st Sudoku World Championships. Eighty-five contestants from 22 nations participated in this historic event. Our representatives to the contest were Alvin Belleza (4th yr., Ateneo de Manila) and Kendrick Saavedra (3rd yr. college, Ateneo de Manila).

On February 2 and 10, eighteen elementary MTG Kids visited the Ateneo de Manila to join in the 4th Ateneo Grade School Mathematics Olympiad. Darwin Ivan Carrasco (Gr. 6, Pamplona Elementary School) emerged as the lone gold medallist among all contestants in the individual competition. MTG Kids bagged 1 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze medals, out of the 9 medals handed out in all. Meanwhile, Vance Eldric Go (Gr. 5, St. Jude Catholic School) and Wyeth Sy (Gr. 6, St. Stephen's High School) won the gold in the mixed Ateneo-MTG team competition.

On January 13 and 17, sixteen high school MTG Kids were in the Ateneo de Manila for the 4th Ateneo High School Mathematics Olympiad. Carlo Francisco Adajar (1st yr., Southridge School), Nellie Margaret Chua (3rd yr., Chiang Kai Shek College), and Emerson Escolar (4th yr., Grace Christian High School) emerged as the contest's three gold medallists. MTG Kids nabbed 6 out of the 10 medals handed out in the individual contest, bagging 3 golds, 2 silvers, and 1 bronze. Paul Julian Hao (2nd yr., Chiang Kai Shek College), Patrick Adrian Ong (1st yr., St. Jude Catholic School), and Joanna Jane Tan (3rd yr., Jubilee Christian Academy) also won the gold medal in the mixed Ateneo-MTG team competition.


2005 Achievements

On November 13 to 18, five MTG Kids flew to Jakarta, Indonesia for the 2005 International Mathematics and Science Olympiad for Primary Schools. Four brought home bronze medals from the competition. They are: Kenneth Co (Grade 4, Xavier School), Immanuel Encarnacion (Gr. 6, Colegio San Agustin, Binan), Brendon Matthew Go (Gr. 4, Xavier School), and Audrey Celine Lao (Gr. 4, St. Jude Catholic School).

On October 20, the Australian Mathematics Trust awarded several MTG Kids for their performance in the 2005 Australian Mathematics Competition held on August 4. Immanuel Encarnacion (Gr. 6, Colegio San Agustin Binan), Aldric Cristoval Reyes (Gr. 6, Chiang Kai Shek College), and Amiel Sy (Gr. 5, Jubilee Christian Academy) received BH Neumann Certificates for achieving a perfect score in the contest. They are among only 33 students worldwide to accomplish the feat this year, and the first Filipino students to ever do so. Meanwhile, Stephanie Anne Oliveros (2nd yr., Philippine Science High School), Emmanuel Lance Christopher Plan VI (4th yr., Ateneo de Manila), and Marquis Alexander Tan (Gr. 7, Xavier School) received AMC Medals. Only 69 students worldwide received this award. Nineteen MTG Kids also received High Distinction Awards (top 1%). The AMC is the world's largest international math competition, with 600,000 participants from at least 10 countries taking its correspondence-type test this year.

On October 10, the MTG released the results of the Australasian Schools Science Competition held on July 28 and administered through the MTG. The total haul of the Philippines was: 14 High Distinction Certificates (top 1%), 94 Distinction Certificates (top 10%), and 117 Credit Certificates (top 20%). Thirteen countries took part in this correspondence-type international competition.

On August, four MTG Kids flew to Chang Chung, China, to compete in the 2005 China Mathematics Olympiad for Girls. Two went home with bronze medals from the event. They are Abegail Ceralde (4th yr., Zamboanga Chung Hua High School) and Joanna Jane Tan (3rd yr., Jubilee Christian Academy).

On August 8 to 14, forty-two MTG Kids made the trip to Shandong, China for the 2005 "I Love Math" China Primary Mathematics Olympiad. Philippines Team 14 - composed of Aileen Giselle Chua (1st yr., Grace Christian High School), Carmela Antoinette Lao (Gr. 5, St. Jude Caholic School), and Vance Mikhail Uy (1st yr., St. Jude Catholic School) - emerged as the top team for the Calculation Skills Competition. The three of them and Ervin Frederick Dy (1st yr., Chiang Kai Shek College) bagged 1st Honors in Calculation Skills. In all, the Philippines bagged four 1st Honor, seven 2nd Honor, and thirty 3rd Honor Certificates for the Calculation Skills Competition; and fourteen 2nd Honor and twenty-eight 3rd Honors Certificates for the Problem Solving Competition.

On August 2 to 9, thirty-three MTG Kids represented the country in the 2005 "I Love Math" China Junior High School Mathematics Olympiad. The MTG Kids went home with two 2nd Honor and twenty-five 3rd Honors Certificates from the Open-Ended Problem Solving Competition, and six 2nd Honor and twenty-seven 3rd Honors Certificates from the Short Answer Competition. Paul Julian Hao (2nd yr., Chiang Kai Shek College) and Alister Lusuan (1st yr., Xavier School) won 2nd Honors in the Open-Ended Problem Solving. Meanwhile, Minerva Bianca Avecilla (3rd yr., San Beda College, Alabang), Angeline Baniqued (1st yr., St. Paul's College, Pasig), Galvin Lester Dy (4th yr., Grace Christian High School), Kevin Jonathan Dy (2nd yr., St. Stephen's High School), Carmegie Saliba (4th yr., Negros Occidental Science High, School), and Aileen Gail Versoza (3rd yr., San Beda College, Alabang), all got 2nd Honors in the Short Answer Competition.

On August 2 to 5, sixteen MTG Kids were in Kaohsiung, Taiwan for the Kaohsiung 6th Invitational World Youth Mathematics Intercity Competition. Two Philippine representatives bagged bronze medals from that contest. They are Emmanuel Lance Christopher Plan VI (4th yr., Ateneo de Manila) and Mark Benedict Tan (2nd yr., Xavier School). One hundred and thirty-six students from 11 countries participated in this contest.

On July 16 to 20, sixteen MTG Kids went to Hong Kong, China for the Po Leung Kuk 9th Primary Mathematics World Competition. Our representatives brought home one 2nd Honor and seven 3rd Honor Certificates from the individual competition, and one 1st Runner-up Trophy and one Merit Award from the team competition. Carmela Lao (Gr. 5., St. Jude Catholic School) won 2nd Honors in the individual contest, while Team Metro Manila - composed of Carmela Lao, Aileen Giselle Chua (1st yr., Grace Christian High School), Aldric Cristoval Reyes (Grade 6, Chiang Kai Shek College), and Vance Mikhail Uy (1st yr., St. Jude Catholic School) - won a 1st Runner-up trophy in the team competition. One hundred and seventy-six students from 15 countries joined this competition.

On July 8 to 13, four high school MTG Kids participated in the 2nd Southeast China Mathematical Olympiad. They brought home 3 bronze medals and 1 merit award. Bronze medallists were: Miguel Isidro Carino (3rd yr., Ateneo de Manila), John Carlos Clerigo (4th yr., San Beda College, Alabang), and Leo Patrick Telosa (4th yr., San Beda College, Alabang). One hundred and thirty-two participants from various Chinese provinces and 3 guest countries took part in this contest.

On June 3 to 4, fifteen MTG Kids wore our flag's colors in the 2005 American Regions Math League. The Philippine Team emerged as the top team in the Super Relay, one of the contest's five formats, and finished 44th out of 68 teams in Division B. Receiving High Scorer Medals for the team were: Alvin Belleza (3rd yr., Ateneo de Manila), Emerson Escolar (3rd yr., Grace Christian High School), Calvin Bernard Lim (3rd yr., St. Stephen's High School), and Ana Patricia Miravite (2nd yr., Philippine Science High School).

On May 24 to 27, fifty-two high school MTG Kids participated during the country's hosting of the 2005 Asian Intercities Teenagers' Mathematical Olympiad. Chiara Rosario Lanuza (1st yr., Philippine Science High School) and Jon Henri Ma (4th yr., Trinity Christian School, Bacolod) won both gold medals in the individual competition, while Team Cebu - composed of Jon Ma, Alvin Belleza (3rd yr., Ateneo de Manila), Kyna Elyse Cheu (3rd yr., Sacred Heart School - Jesuit), Emmanuel Lance Christopher Plan VI (3rd yr., Ateneo de Manila) - won a 1st place trophy in the team competition. In all, MTG Kids bagged 2 gold medals, 5 silver medals, 11 bronze medals, and 26 merit awards in the individual competition; and one 1st place, two 2nd place, and four 3rd place trophies in the team competition. One hundred and twenty-four students from 6 countries took part in this event.

On May 24 to 27, sixty-six elementary MTG Kids represented our country when it hosted the 2005 Philippine Elementary Mathematics International Contest in Tagbilaran City, Bohol. Team Metro Manila - composed of Aileen Giselle Chua (Gr. 6, Grace Christian High School), Carmela Antoinette Lao (Gr. 4, St. Jude Catholic School), Dann Julius Tan (Gr. 6, Chiang Kai Shek College), and Vance Mikhail Uy (Gr. 6, St. Jude Catholic School) - finished second over-all out of 42 teams from 11 countries. MTG Kids garnered 6 gold medals, 18 silver medals, 18 bronze medals, and 20 merit awards in the individual competition; two 1st place, seven 2nd place, and seven 3rd place trophies in the team competition; and 1st place in the puzzles competition. Gold medallists in the individual competition were: Aileen Giselle Chua, Earl John Chua (Gr. 6, Grace Christian High School), Rafael Perea (Gr. 6, Camarin Elementary School), Aldric Cristoval Reyes (Gr. 5, Chiang Kai Shek College), John Francis Simeon (Gr. 6, Aurora Quezon Elementary School), and Marquis Alexander Tan (Gr. 6, Xavier School). Winning 1st place in the team contest were: Team Metro Manila and Team Dagupan - composed of Rafael Perea, John Francis Simeon, Victorio Vicher (Gr. 6, San Antonio Elementary School), and Kevin Yambao (Gr. 6, Pateros Elementary School). And for the puzzles competition, the champion team was Team Tagaytay - composed of Raymund Joseph Alibutud (Gr. 6, San Beda College, Alabang), Darwin Ivan Carrasco (Gr. 5, Pamplona Elementary School), Immanuel Encarnacion (Gr. 5, Colegio San Agustin, Binan), and Rigel Stewart Espiritu (Gr. 6, San Beda College, Alabang).

On May 16 to 20, the MTG began its international campaign for 2005 with four high school MTG Kids competing in the 3rd Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) Mathematics Olympiad in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This was the first time that MTG Kids represented the country in this event. The Philippines garnered 1 silver and 1 bronze medal in the individual competition and ranked 4th out of 10 countries. Jon Henri Ma (4th yr., Trinity Christian School, Bacolod) won the silver medal for the country.

On February 10 and 11, twelve elementary MTG Kids competed as guest participants in the 3rd Ateneo Grade School Mathematics Olympiad. This was the first time that the AMO invited participants from other schools to join the AMO. Carmela Antoinette Lao (Gr.4, St. Jude Catholic School) and Carlo Francisco Adajar (Gr. 7, Southridge School) both won gold medals in the individual competition MTG Kids accounted for 7 out of the 9 medals handed out in the individual contest, winning 2 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze medals. Carlo Adajar also won another gold by steering his team to the top of the mixed Ateneo-MTG team competition.

On February 2, seventeen high school MTG Kids competed as guest participants in the 3rd Ateneo High School Mathematics Olympiad. This was the first time that the AMO invited participants from other schools to join the AMO. Nellie Margaret Chua (2nd year, Chiang Kai Shek College) and Charles William Ang (4th year, Chiang Kai Shek College) topped their respective divisions in the individual competition, winning both gold medals at stake. MTG Kids won a total 2 golds and 1 bronze medal from the individual contest. Meanwhile, John Garret Go (4th yr., St. Stephen's High School) and Paul Julian Hao (1st yr., Chiang Kai Shek College) also won gold medals when their team emerged on top in the mixed Ateneo-MTG team competition.


2004 Achievements

On December 5 to 9, eighteen high school MTG Kids flew to Lucknow, India for the 1st International Young Mathematicians' Competition (IYMC). Charles William Ang (4th yr., Chiang Kai Shek College), Elvis Chua (4th yr., Zamboanga Chung Hua High School), and John Garret Go (4th yr., St. Stephen's High School) won gold medals in the individual competition. MTG Kids brought home 3 gold, 4 silver, and 5 bronze medals from the individual competition, 1 gold and 2 bronzes from the team competition, and 1 gold and 1 bronze from the relay competition. Two hundred and ten participants from ten countries joined this contest.

On November 29 to December 4, six elementary MTG Kids went to Jakarta, Indonesia for the 2nd International Mathematics and Science Olympiad for Primary Schools. Carmela Antoinette Lao placed 5th over-all out of around 80 participants from 11 countries, earning her a gold medal - the country's first from this competition. In all, the country brought home 1 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medal from the event.

On October 22, the Australian Mathematics Trust awarded several MTG Kids for their performance in the 2004 Australian Mathematics Competition held on July 29. Ryan Jerome Chua (2nd yr. college, Ateneo de Manila), Ana Patricia Miravite (2nd yr., Philippine Science High School), and Daniel Andrew Tan (2nd year, Grace Christian High School) received AMC medals. They were among the 49 students who received this award out of 600,000 participants worldwide this year. Five MTG Kids also received Prize Awards (top 0.3%), while 18 received High Distinction Awards (top 1%). The AMC is the world's largest international math competition, with at least 10 countries taking part in this correspondence-type contest this year.

On September 7 to 11, twenty-eight elementary MTG Kids visited Lucknow, India for the 2004 India Elementary Mathematics Intercity Competition (IEMIC). The Philippines ranked second over-all in this contest participated in by 144 participants from 10 countries. Our representatives won 2 gold, 7 silver, and 13 bronze medals in the individual competition; and 4 silver and 2 bronze medals in the team competition. Paul Julian Hao (1st yr., Chiang Kai Shek College) and Rafael Perea (Grade 6, Camarin Elementary School) both won gold medals in the individual contest, becoming the first two Filipino EMIC gold medallists.

On August 9 to 13, thirty-six elementary MTG Kids flew to Shenzen, China for the 2004 "I Love Math" China Primary Mathematics Olympiad. MTG Kids bagged four 2nd Honors and thirty 3rd Honors Certificates in the Calculation Skills Competition, and one 2nd Honors and thirty-one 3rd Honors Certificates in the Problem Solving Competition. John Bernard Ong (1st yr., Grace Christian High School) took home 2nd Honors from both competitions.

On August 6 to 8, thirty-three high school MTG Kids were in Shenzhen, China for the for the 2004 "I Love Math" China Junior High School Mathematics Olympiad. MTG Kids brought home two 2nd Honors and thirty-one 3rd Honors Certificates from this event. Second Honors recepients were: Francisco Lee (4th yr., Zamboanga Chung Hua High School) and Emmanuel Lance Christopher Plan VI (3rd yr., Ateneo de Manila).

On August 2 to 6, twenty high school MTG Kids went to Macau for the 5th Invitational World Youth Mathematics Intercity Competition. Jon Henri Ma (4th yr., Trinity Christian School Bacolod) won a gold medal in the individual competition, after ranking 2nd out of 108 participants coming from 9 countries. In all, MTG Kids bagged a haul of 1 gold medal, 5 silver medals, 11 bronze medals, and 3 merit awards from the individual competition; and one 2nd place trophy and one 3rd place trophy from the team competition.

On July 16 to 20, sixteen elementary MTG Kids were in Hong Kong, China for the MTG's 1st international contest in 2004, the Po Leung Kuk 8th Primary Mathematics World Contest. MTG Kids won two 2nd Honors and two 3rd Honors Certificates in the individual competition, and two Merit Awards in the team competition. Paul Julian Hao (1st yr., Chiang Kai Shek College) and John Bernard Ong (1st yr., Grace Chrisitan High School) both bagged 2nd Honors in the individual competition. One hundred and forty-four students from 14 countries participated in this contest.
